What do we need to know about you?

I am a full-time public relations professor at Virginia Tech. I was born and raised in Chicago, then moved to Tucson, Arizona to get my PhD before ending up in southwest Virginia. My job can be stressful and isolating, so I blog for fun. My students always describe me as "Type-A" and someone who never repeats on outfit. I'm sickeningly organized and keep multiple lists going all the time. I'm the proud mom of a yorkie-poo, married, left-handed, a wine-o, and lover of clothes, shoes and shows on Bravo.

Morning Routine

My morning routine varies depending on the school year, teaching schedule, and the day of the week. I teach two courses per semester, which is two days a week. So, I don't always need to report to my office each day and can work at home if I want. Depending on when these classes begin, I wake up earlier or later. Right now since it's summer, I have the pleasure of waking up without an alarm. On days when I'm not teaching or teaching late, I also do not use an alarm and typically I wake up between 7:30 and 8 a.m. to lots of tail-wagging and face licking. At this point, my husband is already at work, so it's just the pup and me. We both stretch for a minute in bed and then I get up and head straight to the bathroom to say "good morning" to Alexa (from Amazon), brush my teeth, and quickly wash my face with some micellar water. Then, it's down the stairs and out the door with the dog for a 15 minute neighborhood loop. When we return, it's treat time and I also give him water and food. Some days I place a mobile order for Starbucks and then pick it up, other days I make my chai latte (iced in the summer) at home.

Nightly Routine

Some days I feel more motivated to work in the evenings than others, so this also kind of fluctuates depending on what I have going on. For the most part, my husband and I change into our sweats and then cook dinner. After dinner at least one of us walks the dog around the neighborhood again, his final long walk of the day. Then, we watch some TV. I typically shower at night, so I'll do that too and then throw on some Crest Whitestrips, wash and moisturize my face, fill up our essential oil diffuser with some combo like lavender and eucalyptus, and then get in bed to relax while my hair air dries. It's super glamorous ;) When I'm relaxing in bed, I make a to-do list for the next day either on my phone or computer so I know exactly what I need to do and can start mentally preparing. I also try to catch up on the day's news again in the evening before falling asleep.

Fitness Routine

I wish I could tell you this super strict fitness routine but the truth is I think about working out way more than actually doing it. I do wear a Fit Bit and try to drink a lot of water. I also have a stand-up desk in my office at work which really helps me a lot. I walk the dog a few times per day which usually totals up to about 30 minutes, and sometimes go for another walk/run a few times per week. I LOVE ToneItUp and try to do the at-home workouts as much as possible. Working out really helps me manage my stress, so it's definitely something I need to prioritize more. Since I live in a small town, fitness classes are limited and expensive (hot yoga is $15 per one hour class!! it was $4 in AZ!) so I prefer at home or outdoor workouts.

Any other daily routines we should know about?

In addition to my routine I just try to embrace the fluidity of each day and not be too strict with myself. I'm fortunate to have the type of job where if I'm really not in the mood to do something, I don't have to and I can wait until I'm in the right headspace. But with that, I'm also never "off the clock" and there is always something I could be doing, so I let myself just go with the flow in that sense. I'm constantly texting with friends throughout the day especially since we are living away from most of our close friends and families. I'm a huge fan of doing one big massive clean up once or twice a week instead of like ten minutes per day, so nothing really noteworthy and routine there. I do, however, like to hang my weekly outfits on a garment rack I keep in our room so that all the guesswork is eliminated and I know I have everything I need ready to go. Going out to dinner at least once a week is always on our agenda and trying to find fun weekend adventures is an ongoing part of each week, too.

When it comes to eating...

I really don't believe in dieting. I have a sensitive stomach though so I need to carefully watch what I eat to avoid major discomfort.

Where do you draw inspiration?

I love reading blogs and articles online but I also like to keep it natural on my skin. I use micellar water and rosehip oil the most and wash my face using a Clarisonic and Philosophy's Purity face cleanser in the shower.
